Platte County Pachyderm Forum:
“How the Resources and Programs from Fort Leavenworth’s
impact Platte County”
The Kansas City area is struggling through the immediate
recession. But Platte County gets an unexpected
economic benefit. Fort Leavenworth has been a positive
force in the region since its founding in 1827 as a
garrison to protect settlers moving west. It is now
known as the "Intellectual Center of the Army".
The Command and Staff College at Ft.
Leavenworth annually draws hundreds of officers to our
area. A bonus for the region is the sizeable and
positive impact of its school and support staff. Plus,
the other area military services have added to
the economies of Platte County and the surrounding
counties.
On July 2nd ,
Adrian Cruz , Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth
Community Relations Officer, will present how personnel,
purchases, and other ongoing expenditures enhance our
area.
Ms. Cruz has an illustrious career of working with
various communities. Her previous military assignments
include duty as Television & Radio Broadcast Supervisor
and Network Operations Controller, American Forces
Network - Europe. In 2000, she was accepted into the
highly competitive Department of the Army Internship
program and was assigned to serve at the Pentagon in the
Office of the Chief of Public Affairs; she has also
served as Broadcast Supervisor, 18th Airborne
Corps Public Affairs Office at Fort Bragg, North
Carolina.
During her military career, Ms. Cruz was deployed on
special assignment to cover military operations and
maneuvers in Grenada, England, France and East Germany.
She has written nationally published articles.
For residents who are curious about the county’s income
sources. This Fort Leavenworth story will prove
interesting and assuring.
